  1. New Game!!

Genre: Slice of Life, Comedy, Seinen
    Source: 4-koma manga
    Studio: Doga Kobo
    Number of episodes: 12

This is a cute show about a video game company. The main character is fresh out of high school and is hired in. She wants to be a character designer. I was just starting my own video game creation tutorials when I was suggested this series so it was great timing.

    Knights and Magic
    [IMG]

    Genre: Action, Fantasy, Mecha, School
    Source: Light novel
    Studio: 8bit
    Number of episodes: 13

A video programmer is reborn into a world where mechs are real, which happened to be his obsession in his previous life. He turns into a master creator and goes wild with the opportunity. He’s so energetic and likeable that you just get pulled in by his nerd high. Though structurally weak, it’s a blast to watch.

    Eromanga sensei
    [IMG]
    Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance
    Source: Light novel
    Studio: A-1 Pictures
    Number of episodes: 12

This is basically a remake of Oreimo (My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute). But it’s got its own groove. The brother and sister duo write and draw manga. She’s a shut-in and he’s trying to literally draw her out. Plenty of good comedy and a few decent character moments make it worthwhile.

    Katsugeki Touken Ranbu
    [IMG]
    Genre: Action, Samurai, Fantasy
    Source: Card game
    Studio: ufotable
    Number of episodes: 13

Legendary swords from Japan’s history are given human form in the future. Their new master has them go through time to stop an enemy that is trying to alter history. It’s got incredibly beautiful animation and the character driven plots are pretty complex. It’s got great action and some heart too.

    Twin Angel Break
    [IMG]

    Genre: Drama, Magic
    Source: Original
    Studio: J.C.Staff
    Number of episodes: 12

Twin Angel Break is pretty much a run of the mill magical girl series. The plot revolves around two girls where one is shy and the other is idealistically positive to a fault. The action is okay and the story isn’t all that interesting. But there are good moments in it so it’s worth the watch.

Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor
    [IMG]
    Genre: Action, Magic, Fantasy, School
    Source: Light novel
    Studio: LIDENFILMS
    Number of episodes: 12

Our protagonist is a slacker who works as a sub-teacher at a magic academy. His students include aristocrats who are appalled by his ineptitude. The comedy is on point and the action is quite good as well. The main characters have really interesting backgrounds that come to light as the show progresses.

    Interviews with Monster Girls
    [IMG]
Genre: Comedy, Vampire, Fantasy, School, Seinen
    Source: Manga
    Studio: A-1 Pictures
    Number of episodes: 12

Demi-chan wa Kataritai is a charming little show about real "monsters" who are attending a human school. But every other human knows what they are. Their teacher is fascinated by them and takes a personal interest in their well-being. He gets to know them and helps them out. It’s definitely adorable with some solid comedy.

    Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid
    [IMG]
Genre: Slice of Life, Comedy, Fantasy
    Source: Manga
    Studio: Kyoto Animation
    Number of episodes: 13

Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is another endearing series. Our protagonist Kobayashi, who’s a programmer by trade, finds a dragon in the forest one night. Being in a drunken state, she invites said dragon to live with her. However she completely forgets about the encounter and when the dragon shows up as a cute girl, her life gets complicated. Kobayashi has a maid fetish and requests her become a maid in exchange for rent. Kobayashi is a loner so this is her chance at a family type existence. The dragon’s family gets involved as well, taking the form of humans. The dragon learns how to fit in as a human and helps her family mingle too. The ending is extremely rewarding. Although it’s a comedy on the surface, it has high end character development and some really touching moments.

The Saga of Tanya the Evil
    [IMG]
    Genre: Military, Magic
    Source: Light novel
    Studio: NUT
    Number of episodes: 12

Youjo Senki is a bizarre one where a guy dies and ends up reincarnating as a little girl in an alternate reality of the 20th century in what is essentially World War II Germany. In this alternate timeline, magic is real and is used instead of jets to fly and shoot. He ended up in this mess as a result of rejecting a supreme being. He tries to lead a safe life in the army but ends up in the frontlines of the war due to his zealot mania on the battlefield and his strategic foresight. It’s equally gripping and annoying at times. It’s kind of hard to pinpoint my dislike for part of it. But it’s interesting so that kept me going.

    elDLIVE
    [IMG]

    Genre: Action, Sci-Fi, Space
    Source: Manga
    Studio: Studio Pierrot
    Number of episodes: 12

elDLIVE is a goofy men-in-black style show. Aliens end up enlisting a middle-schooler earthling to help find aliens causing trouble on earth. At first it seemed totally hokey as the animation style is reminiscent of Saturday morning cartoons. But there actually are some interesting plots and character moments. It’s not particularly deep and can be cringe-worthy at times but it’s fun.

    Blend S
    [IMG]

Genre: Slice of Life, Comedy, Seinen
    Source: 4-koma manga
    Studio: A-1 Pictures
    Number of episodes: 12

Blend S is an absolutely adorable comedy show about a cafe where its waitresses are playing given roles. The main character, unintentionally, comes across as a sadistic person, so she is asked to play that role. The manager is a foreigner who is infatuated by her. The protagonist loves foreigners too. The comedy is great. Although there isn’t an overall story arc to speak of, the shorts per episode are fun.

    Elegant Yokai Apartment Life
    [IMG]
Genre: Slice of Life, Mystery, Supernatural
    Source: Novel
    Studio: Shin-Ei Animation
    Number of episodes: 26

High School student Yuushi learns about magic after he finds lodging in an apartment where the dead reside with the living. He becomes a mage with the help of everyone at the apartment. It’s a really cute and fun show. Even though I personally disagree with some of the "life lessons" that Yuushi learns throughout the course of the show, it’s quite well done. His growth is definitely the focus. But there’s plenty of comedy to go along with it.

Per kuzes question on touken Ranbu below:

It has a plot twist believe it or not. I can't describe it without giving it away. Suffice it to say its a pretty satisfying ending for a 12 ep series (13?). Its got a really large cast but it mainly focuses on thd first group your introduced to. It gives the main characters enough time to develop personalities.

As i said in the review the animation is phenomenal. Its eye wateringly beautiful at times. Im not exaggerating. Just watch a trailer or even just the end credits.
