At a "Ready Player One" movie event in Tokyo, manga artist Yuusuke Murata announced that he'll launch a BTTF manga series based on the 1985 American science-fiction film, supervised by Bob Gale (who co-wrote the 1985 film).

The manga will include story content not seen in the film. It'll be serialized on the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Web site at a date to be announced later. However, Murata plans to publish the first compiled book volume on April 20. No info on an English version as of yet.

Opening page panels form the manga were also showcased. The illustrations feature Michael J. Fox as the main lead Marty McFly as well as characters from the film's two sequels.

Manga artist Yuusuke Murata has reported on Twitter that his manga adaptation of the film has been cancelled. Murata explained that the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Web site's editors did all they could, but they could not resolve the rights issues for several elements that would have appeared in the manga.

Too bad. This would've been cool. And I really wish there was more colored manga.

I saw this the other day. This would have been awesome. Sucks they had to cancel it.
