You like bounty hunters? You like space? Take a seat, friend, because I’ve got some good news for you. A live action adaptation of Sunrise’s Cowboy Bebop anime is in the works. Prepare yourself.

According to Deadline, Marty Adelstein’s Tomorrow studios is partnering with Midnight radio to produce Cowboy Bebop for television with the blessing of Sunrise, the studio responsible for the original series. In a public statement, Adelstein expressed his excitement at developing the adaptation for American audiences.

“The animated version has long resonated with audiences worldwide,” Adelstein said. “With the continued, ever growing, popularity of anime, we believe a live action version will have an incredible impact today.”

In the original Cowboy Bebop series that ran for 26 episodes and concluded in 1999, humans have fled an uninhabitable Earth in favor of various colonized planet where groups of bounty hunters make a living tracking down rogue criminals. The series chronicles the adventures of the Bebop, a ship piloted by one Spike Spiegel (a con artist,) his partner Jet Black (a former police officer,) Faye Valentine (a con artist dealing with amnesia,) Ed Wong (a prodigy hacker,) and their dog Ein, a superhumanly intelligent corgi.

While Cowboy Bebop has some of the most gorgeous animation you’ll ever see, it’s the series’ soundtrack that people most often bring up in their celebration of it. It’ll make a jazz fan out of you.

No news about casting or production has been announced as of yet. For now, you’ll have to spend your time debating whether or not this adaptation is actually a good idea (could be) and who you want to see as spike (Keanu, obviously.)

My favorite Anime ever! Don't screw this up or there will be blood!

    Jaiden Smith as Spike obviously.

Because I don't remember a plank of wood being in it.

They best get the soundtrack right.

A hollywood version of Knockin' on Heaven's Door would be fucking amazing.

Though, am I the only one who hears about these live action versions but never actually knows where to find them? :|

Not a bad idea and he also knows Martial Arts, apparently from what I've read he's a HUGE fan of Cowboy Bebop that might help.

    What about Jensen Ackles?

Christopher Yost, nice. I've been a pretty big fan of his ever since he helmed the Scarlet Spider series in 2012. I thought that Thor: The Dark World was a pretty big miss in his catalog, but we'll see how the next one goes. At the very least, he's a good start.

Now, who wants to bet this won't work out, like the hundreds of other live action adaptations stuck in development hell? :p

Well done whoever said Ron Pearlman as Jet. Please.....just no Vin Diesel. Pretty please. No, he needs to do another non-sucky Roddick flick instead.

Christina Hendricks would've been perfect as Faye. In the mid to late naughties. And Keenu as Spike would be a deal killer for me. Just no. Aubrey Plaza or someone from American Honey to play Ed. Or that girl from Cat Fight, Ariel Kavoussi. She was adorable.

The dog has to be played by one of the Queens Corgi's.

The plot and setting is very western, very sci-fy'ee and very Noirish. Theres no reason why this can't be a good thing. Its all about how they pace and execute it. /obviousness.

Vicious........see this was a perfect Antonio Banderes casting a decade ago. Danial Wu with long hair would just crack me up.

Also Bautista as Jet is making the rounds.

Wonder if the rumors have something to do with his stint as a Replicant on Blade Runner.

Hollywood trying to adapt Cowboy Bebop as a T.V. series?

    I'll hope for the best.

So Netflix will be a party to this project as well. They've announced it'll be a 10 episode tv series. No release date yet. Aaand still no cast list.

Shinichiro Watanabe will serve as consultant for the project. Chris Yost will write the first episode, and is also credited as executive producer.

I read, and I'm actually happy about this one. Many of the live action anime stuff are low budget shite with people that can't act. Sounds like it's going to have the budget to hopefully do it justice. No excuses!

I don't think I've ever been so nervous and excited for a show as I have been for this. Hands down my favorite anime, so hopefully they can get it right.

Cowboy bebop is already overrated to begin with and given the records of bad anime adaptations I have no hope..
