Golden Kamuy Genre: Action, Adventure, Seinen, Historical Studio: Geno Studio Source: Manga Air Date: April 9, 2018 Synopsis "Immortal" Saichi Sugimoto embarks on the treasure hunt of a lifetime, and takes to the cold wilderness of Hokkaido after surviving the brutal Russo-Japanese War. In the biting cold of the Northern mountains, the gold rush heat is on, and Sugimoto knows it's time to strike now while the iron is still hot. Enter a fateful treasure map leading to a great hidden stash of Ainu gold, and off Sugimoto goes to search for the fame and fortune one doesn't always get on the battlefield. He's not alone, of course - lots of other hardened criminals are just as hard up for the ancient gold as he is, and all of them won't think twice to kill anyone else in their way. Thankfully, Sugimoto's motley crew of treasure hunters is right there with him to make sure he gets his (and their) hands on the hot stuff first. PV
jfc Other than that, really great, solid first episode. Immortal Sugimoto's such a suave guy, I think I just about fell in love with the man. Spoiler
That's the Immortal Sugimoto everybody should be wary of So many factions are after this goddamn gold. Lt. Tsurumi's VA is the same as Ajin's Satou. I'm expecting same levels of madness from this Lt. then. Shiraishi has a lot of stuff in his mouth, doesn't he?
No bear sightings this week. Sorry, that makes the episode a 3 outta 10 for me. Bring back the bears!!! (Also real disturbing how many things Shiraishi has in his mouth, but I'm no Escape King so that's not up to me, I guess.)
Bears are back @Tonto-banchou Tsurumi bit off someone's finger, a naked woman got thrown across the room and white as shit wolf hits you from behind. No limits here.
The bear is back with a vengeance... and a baby! 8/10 episode for me. Obligatory weekly screencap: Asirpa-san continues to be this season's best girl.
Found an interesting article on ANN summing up the political history of Japan during the Meiji Era which serves as the backrop to the proceedings of Golden Kamuy. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/feature/2018-04-27/the-true-history-behind-golden-kamuy/.130932
Little bear sighting makes this episode a 5 out of 10 for me. I sure love my weekly helping of Cooking in the Snowlands.
Golden Kamuy BD/Dvd release in Japan delayed by one month to improve the quality of the footage compared to the television broadcast version.
Full ending theme will be out early June. Been ignoring the Kamuy for a few weeks now. Will catch up again this weekend.
Man I was so busy with binging Rurouni Kenshin and Megalo Box that I had to put this beaut on hold. But now I'm on episode 5 and gonna finish it till episode 10. Sugimoto fights like an animal. And some of the moves and deaths in this show are so brutal to imagine about. Plus there's such a varying cast of characters (and food). Bear hunters, Shinsengumi, fallen rebel soldiers, Ainu hunters and more to come. The hunt for gold is getting hot. As much as I was liking the Ainu cultural folklore and stuff from episodes 2-4, it felt like the tempo dropped a bit. But speedy sailing from the 5th episode, I hope. Also best comedic faces for this season.
The hunt for gold is reminding me of too many tragic movies where there is no peace in the end. I would like to see our main characters come out of all this alive and free. Not so sure of them having any gold, though.
The Henmi Kazuo arc was the weirdest. @Griffmeister. Don't think we'll see the end of the story in the anime, cause the manga is still ongoing. Gonna be a read-the-manga one here.
Oops, forgot to consider the source material, although sometimes they do diverge. Yeah, there is too much going on right now to make a clean wrap of the whole story.
