Fantasy Maquia - When the Promised Flower Blooms (Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana wo Kazarou)

    Mari Okada
    's directional debut under the banner of P.A. Works, Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana o Kazarō titled Maquia - When the Promised Flower Blooms in English will feature in the Glasgow Film Festival.


    U.K. anime distributor Anime Limited has announced that they'll premiere the film in the U.K. and Ireland on March 4. The film will open in Japan on February 24.




    Lowdown:

    The story begins with Maquia, who is from a family where all the members stop aging in their mid teens. She has no parents and, although her days are peaceful, she feels lonely. Their peace is shattered when an army invades, seeking the secret to her people's immortality. Leilia, the most beautiful girl in her clan, is taken away, and the boy Maquia has secret feelings for disappears. Maquia is able to escape, but she loses her friends and her home. Wandering alone in the forest, she finds Erial, a baby boy who has lost his parents. The story follows the changing relationship between the two as Erial grows up and Maquia does not.

    The anime film has debuted at the Japanese box office during the February 24-25 weekend.

    Eleven Arts Anime Studio has acquired the North American distribution rights for the anime film. The company plans to screen the film in the United States beginning on July 20. Screenings will be in Japanese with English subtitles.

    Eleven Arts Anime Studio has announced that it has also acquired the Canadian distribution rights to Mari Okada's Maquia - When the Promised Flower Blooms original anime film. The company plans to screen the film in Canadian Cineplex theaters on July 20, the same day the film will premiere in the United States. Screenings will be in Japanese with English subtitles.

    Eleven Arts also released a new film clip.

    Los Angeles anime convention Anime Expo has announced that it will host the United States premiere of the anime film. The screening will take place on Friday, July 6.

    Shout! Factory will release the anime film on a Blu-ray Disc/DVD combo pack on February 5.

    Anime Limited's home release of Maquia has been delayed to March 25. It was previously scheduled for a 28 January release.

    Anime Limited will release the film on Collectors Blu-ray/DVD, as well as standard Blu-ray and DVD editions on Monday June 17. The Collectors set will include a poster and an 84-page booklet.

    Anyone seen this yet? Premise sounds amazing but its animu so can get cringey/creepy real quick.
