As Kaira charged forward, a grid spawned between Giga Rem, her and the warriors behind her, locking them in place, leaving Kaira alone forward. As she kept moving, the barriers began to glow, was Kaira going to witness her friendlies get wiped once again? Several years ago, one of her operations went south, losing her target and her very own squad, leaving nothing but her and the ashes of a burnt palace. The post traumatic event scarred her for life and with her unstable mind, anger overwhelmed her thoughts. She began to sprint faster, smashing the ground bellow her feet with every step, she was ready to throw it all away for the sake of unknown strangers. The same strangers that could of killed her after burning herself out, the same one that could of sliced her head when she had her back turned, but they did not.

The thought had crossed her spirit, they probably stayed far from her out of fear, but for the very few that believed in her, letting them down would drive her beyond insane. The determination fuelled by her traumatic hatred of failure pushed her beyond her physical resistance. A hot, purple liquid began to poor out of all her previous wounds as smoke began to leak out of her mouth. Yelling out in a much more distorted screech, heading for one of GigaRem's weird legs. Hitting a weak spot would be complicated for Kaira, her angle was a bit off and she had no time to re-adjust.

''GO FOR ME INSTEAD YOU CIRCULAR BASTARD.'' Screeched out Kaira, positioning her sword on her left side, she pounced forward, spinning her body to the right as she started to swing to the right as well with all of her strength. The window was a bit small, but the joints connected to GigaRem were still a target she could hit, but it would leave her vulnerable. In her state of mind, she did not care. Her conscience was still present, but she had her goal set straight. If it meant being executed at the end of all of this, she would gladly sacrifice herself so these people may see the light of day again, no matter how evil they were. Swiping her sword as her spin began to reach a 180 degree, she hoped she was right, it's not like anyone knew about it. Stumbling on her landing thanks to the momentum of her jump, angle and spin, crashing near the right side of GigaRem. If her strike or Jo's attack did nothing, this would be extremely painful, she could in fact lose control of herself if the damage was critical for a normal being, if she were to be attack by GigaRem's proximity defense.

As electricity built around the warriors, it seemed likely this was to be the demise for the remaining warriors. Few who were capable of action worked desperately to stop GigaR.E.M.’s attack from going through. Two red arrows flew from the main group trapped within the red barriers, each path towards the forward legs. One of the arrows traveled parallel to Kaira as she spun around putting as much strength as she could into attacking GigaR.E.M.’s right leg.

As the arrows flew and Kaira dashed, Azam stabbed his spear into one of the few gaps GigaR.E.M. seemed to have around the incubator. Upon moving it back and forth, he soon would realize that the space was hollow. The pod was attached to the main body by the base only. Only a moment after stabbing his spear, the color of the incubator changed from its cerulean color to a deep red. The rest of the machine was still trimmed in cerulean, but the pod had become red.

“Huh? N-no. No no no no no no. Get away!” shouted the man who was trapped within the incubator.

“Isolla den ein 84% increase 99%.” The electricity that had been building around GigaR.E.M. that had only been painfully mild shocks at this point had grown in intensity. The few that started to strike Azam now started to leave burns, and have paralytic effects. Normally Azam would not have had time to escape before the electricity would have killed him, but just before then, the machine shifted as two massive explosions erupted from each of GigaR.E.M.’s front legs. With the super heated strike from Kaira’s sword to the machine’s right leg, it buckled and the whole body shifted several feet to the right.

The laser barrier that kept the majority of the warriors trapped along the far wall did not fall, so when the body shifted, several of the warriors who were nearest to it were vaporized as the barrier moved along the wall. Callsim ran up to Jo and Fyn, pulling them away from the barrier as it almost reached them before stopping when GigaR.E.M. settled. The massive machine was still standing, but had a noticeable lean on its right leg which still burned from the magical explosion.

Soon after the explosion, the electricity that GigaR.E.M. had built up was released and the original path that was to be electrocuted was covered in a wave of lightning strikes and electricity. The residual energy traveled across metallic floor essentially briefly stunning the warriors who remained. Many of the warriors were able to avoid the main attack before the shifting barrier pushed them out of the line of fire.

A white slightly blue steam burst from underneath GigaR.E.M.’s body and the fires were put out. When it cleared, the legs were covered in burn marks, the black outer coating gone from a majority of its front legs. Solid metal resembling steel was exposed through the patches of the melted matte black coating. Like the arm, the metal looked like a collection of fibers knitted to form the main structure. Not long after extinguishing the magical fire, GigaR.E.M. finally let down the barrier that was trapping the warriors in place. The incubator continued to glow red.

“Isolla ao executed. Isolla vigard elevance extel.” Spoke the machine. Slowly, GigaR.E.M. stood back up straight, its arms returning to their resting positions at either side of the machine. Despite the visible damage that Jo was able to cause it, and the massive gash that ran part way across its leg, GigaR.E.M. looked just as menacing as they first met it.

“No, please. Just no. You weren’t supposed to get it to this part. You were just… no. Please just let it win!” pleaded the man who was squirming violently within the incubator.

“Estimated time until depletion: 34. Resource recovery eieh 27%. Activation R.E.M. complete. Active resource consumption, authorized.” As the machine spoke, the man within the incubator looked more and more fearful. Still squirming uncontrollably within the incubator, he started screaming once again. The end what remained of his arm started to burn away slowly, as well as what remained of his leg and pelvis.

“Isolla Extel” In an instant, Azam was falling towards the ground. GigaR.E.M. had disappeared. But before he struck the ground, he was lying on it surrounded by the other warriors without impact. They were all on the far side of the room, and GigaR.E.M. at the other. Each of its arms were once again lodged into either side of the wall, but the prior damage they had done to it was still there. The incubator remained red, and the man inside continued to scream as his limbs were slowly, but surely being melted away. Several hundred spots on its body started to glow red. At the same time, every warrior who was at the far side of the room was covered in red dots of light. No one was quite sure what was going to happen, but they knew this was not a good sign.

“Not what I was hoping for.” Azam muttered as his spear met nothing but air. Apparently, there was nothing connecting the tube to the machine at it’s rear; it’s connectors must all be beneath it. He pulled the spear out and quickly re-sheathed it as the tube switched in colour to a deep red and the man inside started shouting at him to get away. Instead Azam started moving further down the front of the machine to get into a better position. However, the moment he started moving, the electricity that had been simply passing increased in intensity and Azam felt pain surge through his body.

At that very same moment, the whole machine lurched sideways and Azam had to cling tightly to the little bit of grip he had. The machine spouted more nonsense, as far as Azam was concerned, and the man within started to really panic as his body began to further dissolve. Before Azam could say anything to the man, he felt the machine beneath him disappear and he started to fall. Only to hit the ground with no impact milliseconds later.

“Damn it.” He looked around at the other warriors around him, including Jo and Fyn, and realised the machine was back connected to the walls as it had been when they had first arrived. As he looked closer, he noticed damage along the legs. “This thing is starting to feel invincible. At least it can be damaged I suppose.” He said to the group. When red dots started to cover every warrior present, Azam frowned. “We need to act quick.”

    ===================================================================

“Nice save, Callsim. That was some quick reactions.” Whatever the machine had done, it was back where it started, except glowing red at its glass-like tube. “This thing is super tough though. But I’ve got a plan.” She turned to Callsim, glancing at Azam as he walked towards them from where they had all been dumped in the same location moments ago, and raised the green arrows she had been holding alongside the explosive ones earlier.

“Now the outside armour is gone, we need to attack what’s inside. This arrow releases a liquid that melts through most things. I’ll aim at the gaps I’ve made with the explosions then someone needs to strike the point of impact a moment later; give it a second to allow the stuff to do its business.”

Jo spun the arrow around her finger and nocked it into her bow before turning to face the machine. “Heads up people.” She raised the bow, pulled, and loosed in one quick movement; the arrow flew through the air on a direct line to striking the machine at one of its damaged points.

As Kaira came to realize that she was back to where she originally was, hope slowly slipped away from her. After all they had tried, the pod still stood high with sustained damage. Kaira wanted this to be over with, she wished she knew if this were to be their final opponemt, but deep inside she knew it wasn't. In the end, after she had been through, she was given a bad apple of a life.

Red dots located themselves on everyone, at this point anyone knew thid was extremely bad. Jo had an idea, quickly nocking an arrow and aiming it at one of the damaged spots. She spoke of how someone shpuld hit that spot and wait a little bit to let some material take in action, but at this distance, Kaira doubted any would make it in time. He sword did not entirely work and hitting any vital parts was out of the question, her only option left was blunt, after all she did not have any bones left to break. Letting her greatsword fall flat on the floor, Kaira made what she hoped to be the one final assault.

"I... I fucked up, let me take it's electricity. If not, archers..." Said the woman of flame before leaving, she remembered that in it's current stance, it had close range defensive system. With her current transformation, Kaira could fight back the pain and still land a hit, or be vaporised and die on the spot. Without the drag from her sword, the small warrior managed to keep a low stance, dashing much faster and with all of her mobility.

"Forgive me, father... Brother..." She muttered to herself as she made one more jump towards the arrow's impact, clenching her fist, arching her arm back and releasing it with all of her might at tue point of impact.

Knowing they had to act quickly lest they be destroyed a plan was quickly thrown into action. Following their recent attempts to damage GigaR.E.M., they began to target the machine’s leg, specifically the one where Kaira had landed a blow. It was the most damaged and easier to reach compared to the arm which was positioned higher farther back.

To follow that plan, Jo released an arrow with strong acidic properties and Kaira chased it preparing to strike it some moment afterward to give the arrow’s magical acid enough time to dissolve their metallic foe. Several of the other warriors who had some ranged ability also sent their projectiles however insignificant they might be against such a artificial behemoth. Not many of the other warriors moved fearing if they approached the machine, the red dots that covered their bodies would somehow cause them harm. Many of them watched to see what would have happened to Kaira as she alone moved forward.

“Come on, come on, come on, come on.” Repeated Calsim watching in anticipation. Both Jo’s arrow and Kaira slash were enough to get GigaR.E.M. to buckle before. He hoped that this combination again would be enough to finally bring it down.

In the eternity that was the second they watched Jo’s arrow fly and Kaira’s burning flame follow, thing quickly and without warning changed for the worse. No one had moved, and no one’s attention had waned and yet seamlessly they found the very arrow Jo had fired headed straight towards them, Kaira charging right back as well.

In another frenzy of confusion and danger avoidance, the warriors scattered as the arrow flew through them, landing on the ground releasing a sizable splash of corrosive liquid that immediately started to eat into the floor wherever it touched.

The sudden change in direction had also affected Kaira. Before she could grasp what had happened, her attack also flew in between the warriors, striking the wall behind them, which caved in several meters around her. Thankfully, outside of a heat wave, she had missed all of her allies. In the confusion, only a few people noticed that the red dots had vanished. They were replaced with green ones, and only on a select few warriors. Azam, Fyn, and two other nameless warriors had a single green dot on each of them. The dot was the diameter of a golf ball and was located at the center of each of their chests.

One of GigaR.E.M.’s arms detached itself from the wall; the other three remained firmly in place. The blank dome at the end of the lone free arm began to morph a large sphere. The sphere then opened like a four part claw.

“Don’t… let… d-don’t…” shouted the man within the incubator. He had stopped screaming, but was still obviously in a lot of pain. His body was tense as what remained of his body was slowly dissolving into the machine. The spherical claw was launched towards the warriors. Remaining on guard, the warriors jumped out of the way. The claw was still attached to the arm via a thin, yet sturdy cable. The claw landed, scooping a perfectly circular section of the floor before it was retracted back to the arm.

The man within the incubator could see that none of his pleas would reach the warriors. He knew there were only two options left for him. Still cringing from the pain, burning, and torture he was feeling, he shouted out once again.

“G-GigaR--, can only use the engine… s-so many times.” He yelled desperately, trying to avoid biting his tongue attempting to resist the agony long enough to speak. “D-don’t let it c-catch you… don’t be like me.”

The claw sphere was launched again. Watching it, it was clear who it was targeting. The first time it was launched it was aimed at one of the green dot nameless warriors. This time it flew towards Azam. The rest was soon put together. GigaR.E.M. was replenishing. If it managed to catch someone, that person was to be used just like the man suffering within the incubator.

Azam watched as the four-part claw flew towards him and for a second, the thought crossed his mind to attack it in the hopes he could destroy it with a couple of hits. Luckily his battle sense had enough mind to batter that thought away and he dived aside at the last second, letting the claw smash into the ground where he had been standing moments before. He immediately looked to the cable, the thought of cutting through it on his mind, but his quick and dirty assessment of it told him the metal was probably stronger than the blade of his spear.

As these thoughts passed through his head, the claw dragged itself back to the machine’s arm and reattached before moving its position to no doubt fire again.

“Anyone not marked with a green dot, clear out!” He roared, taking note of those that did have a green dot. “The red dots from earlier must have been some kind of scanner, picking the perfect meat to sustain itself.”

Jo dodged around the pool of acid her arrows had made in the floor and came up beside Azam. “I think your assessment is correct, we can’t let it take anyone.”

“No. Also, judging by what the man inside it already is shouting, once the machine runs out of food, it won’t be able to function; or at least not function properly enough so we can destroy it.” Azam gritted his teeth. “As much as it pains me to say it, perhaps the tactic now is not to beat it, but to outlive it.”

Jo’s keen eyes settled on the man within the incubator and despite her normal perky attitude, she couldn’t help but feel the sadness rise up in her at the thought of the man’s fate. She pushed it back down and gripped her bow tightly. “I think you might be right, perhaps if…if we force it to use more energy, we can at least stop the man from suffering too much. But I’m not sure how.”

“Well, that’s seems like an easy answer.” Azam said, hefting his long spear in hand. “We make it defend itself. Cover us.” He turned his head over his shoulder to look at Kaira. “Hey, follow my lead. We need to make sure this machine doesn’t get any rest.” With that said, he dashed off, keeping his eyes locked on the claw mechanism while making sure nothing snuck up on him. Getting closer should at least force it to activate a defence mechanism again, like the electricity.

Jo nocked another explosive arrow and levelled it on the claw as it adjusted its trajectory ready to fire again. Where it aimed, she would intercept it; the explosion of her arrows should be enough to at least knock it off course. The claw fired off and without hesitation, Jo drew and released her arrow with pinpoint accuracy.
