    :

In 1952 Romania, a nun, a Catholic priest and a novice, sent by the Vatican, investigate the mysterious suicidal death of a nun at the Cârța Monastery.

    Teaser Trailer:

Starring Taissa Farmiga, Demián Bichir, Charlotte Hope, Ingrid Bisu, Jonas Bloquet and Bonnie Aarons, the film is scheduled for release on September 7, 2018, by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Valak makes a return and we've moved from a cramped house to a big ass castle-monastery. Hopefully they manage to keep it fresh. The Conjuring horror franchise is the only one that has managed to remain consistent, innovative and genuinely chilling.

Feeling the look but seems like scare jumpathon. Flashing up names of mediocre horror movies doesn't help.

Not even worth the torrent bandwidth. Very disappointed I am. Shitty direction botched it to be honest.

Learned that the girl from American horror story is norman bates' mums daughter... bout the only worthwhile thing to come out of the movie.

Few attempted jump scares that didnt work and was really lacking tension. Not the worst horror movie I've seen, but faaaaaar from the best.

Well at least the Conjuring series is holding good. Hopefully Wan is involved in the script and direction of Conjuring 3 and I can simply forget The Nun ever happened.

I mean, you can see from a mile off that this isn't going to be anything. Or am I being a cynical prick?

I mean, to be fair, the people responsible for it made arguably one of the best ghost movies of the last decade. It's not unreasonable people thought it might be okay

What film. The Nun is this guy’s second feature isn’t it? The other one is The Hallow. I haven’t seen it, are you referring to that?

I think she means James Wan, Gary Dauberman and others who were involved with The Conjuring and other installments in the franchise.

    what kuze said.

At this stage I am wondering how many people watch horror movies expecting them to amazing. There are so few genuinely good ones, but it doesnt mean it might now have been worth even a look

I do, since I tend to filter my choices, especially from the bunch of horror flicks coming out these days. And when I realize that I made the wrong choice and the movie turns out to be a run of the mill one, I get pissed. But then again, having seen so many horror flicks, I guess a lot of films will look dry out of ideas or "done before" for me. But there's always a few gems, or at least I hope there'll be, every year.

There have been a spate of good horror films recently wouldn’t you agree? The Witch was amazing for instance and it’s also worth pointing to the new school of Korean horror (The Wailing & I Saw The Devil). Also, say what you will about the ‘allegorical, conceptual horror’ but I do think that The Babadook and It Follows were impressive entries into the Horror canon. Admittedly I haven’t seen Hereditary (?) and I thought Veronica was overrated but I think on balance I disagree with your anti-genre sentiment. I think I would embrace the inverse argument. I would argue that the recent additions into the genre have raised standards for the genre and therefore they ought to adhere to a higher standard.

I appreciate that I’m going in a bit hard on this. All I meant in my first post was just that from the trailer and promotional material this film just looked like more jumpscare mediocrity.

    No that's fine lol

Horror is my favourite genre, but I do find reviews hard to trust on the genre as a lot of people just dont like them.

I liked the babadook too, but I personally found the vvitch to be boring. I could appreciate what they did, but every persons idea of what constitutes a good horror movie is different. I personally find that when a horror movie tries to take itself too seriously, it usually falls flat for me because the expectation. My favourite era of horror was the 80s, and there was a certain element of tongue in cheek that went with it.

I didnt expect the nun to be amazing by any means, but I also allow myself room to be pleasantly suprised

Edit: the biggest problem with hereditary is that it wasnt a horror movie. It was advertised as one but wasnt. It was more a look at mental health which was portrayed through some mild horror elements
