To be fair to everyone else in the fandom, the person who held Studio Mir to ransom was someone who found the pics a fan, who was not involved, took and then proceeded to use that other person's photos to get Mir to bend. Mir is just the animation company, but the person doing the blackmailing was 15 so I don't think anything was thought through.

Voltron's fandom is just a classic case of a fandom full of minors who don't know any better and aren't being reigned in by older fans, some of whom are encouraging the behavior by participating in it themselves. It isn't so much a shipping problem as it is a fandom problem. Shipping just tends to be really popular in many fandoms.

On the topic of queerbaiting and burying your gays, it's definitely a combination of writing issues and marketing. It sounds like marketing got a hold of the first episode and just ran off of that without consideration for what might happen, and just hyped up getting to meet Adam like we were going to see actual relationship interactions. And that didn't happen so it felt like salt in the wound because they got people's hopes up. If that marketing decision hadn't happened, the reaction wouldn't be that bad. I think the real writing problem exists in them not giving us any reason to care about him, so it just feels like a shock value death or just more torture for Shiro, who is beaten down so often it's just sad to see.

Personally i think they were always intending it to be subtle and it was but the fans read too much into it and were disappointed. Probably because they marketed it wrong but by just watching the show i think it was handled pretty well

    I guess I'll stick in a spoiler:

Yeah, honestly, I feel that's often the case, wesley. Watching it, as I had, without any outside influence, or prior knowlege of season 7's direction, I saw almost nothing wrong with that portrayal. From what I understood of it, he had a significant other, they had the "don't expect me to be here when you get back" argument, so essentially broke up. Would have expected the SO to have moved on either way after not hearing from him after 3 years. The chances of a continued relationship were slim.

For our main characters, it wasn't 3 years though. For them only a short time had passed, so really, he should have felt a lot more over the loss of someone he had loved, at least until recently. That definitely confused the hell out of me while watching it. Those kind of feelings don't just vanish overnight. Even if there were no romantic feelings anymore, he'd still care a lot about him and be a lot more upset.

Having said all that, definitely glad they didn't part on "madly in love" terms. Imagine that he returns to Earth and finds his SO married or engaged to someone else. How soul destroying would that be?

I've seen photos and videos of the NYCC exclusie trailer and it looks like we'll actually get some combat. I hope the finale season goes all out.

The trailer is vague in the kind of ways that make me think it wants me to be afraid that everyone is gonna die. I feel like that tree thing with Allura and that scene of Matt jumping into explosions is setting them up as potential deaths.

It would be pretty wild though if they kill of Allura at the last possible moment, though.

I doubt they'd kill off anyone from the main cast. I mean, it is voltron.

Season 8 thoughts: I liked it, personally. The animation budget was definitely increased. I felt it was better paced in the return to 13 episodes than season 7 was, and I thought it was fun overall. Not everything was necessarily tied up, but it's a cartoon, I don't expect everything to be neatly tied up. The fandom's angry about things not becoming canon that they wanted and whinging about how they're wronged or whatever, and I'm just watching it burn as someone who doesn't define their life by what shows they watch.

    big fat fucking spoiler rant
    SERIOUSLY?!
They put lance with allura? that was the worst romance ever, so fucking forced, and not once was i ever convinced she actually cared about him at all. Her focus was everywhere but him, at best he was her superficial shoulder to cry on. Fuck and then she dies and leaves him literally worshiping her memory with no happy ending other than living alone on a farm retiered to the countryside, even though everyone else literally had their goals and dreams realized. They did lance so fucking dirty. My son deserved better OK?!
And no this isnt because i ship klance, hance, or shance, or romance, or even corance, just the romance was bad and the writers should feel bad.

also what was up with voltron going super sayjin, and then again, and again, and again. Like wtf?

At least the refs to the old show and cyborg 009 were cute.

I liked it. It tied off everything very nicely. The romance between lance and allura was fine and it had been building up throughout the whole series. The ending was touching and sweet and honestly almost made me cry. I wonder if this is really the end though? Like, i can totally see them pulling a voltron force and having them come out of retirement for a spinoff of some kind. All in all though I really dug it

Finally got around to watching it. I really liked the final season and left me feeling satisfied with how it ended. Even Lance transformed from an annoying and immature (although funny) twit into a much more likeable character. That was the one thing that stood out most to me this season. I actually got to like Lance! This season.... I also cried. lol.

Once he was prepared to admit his feelings to Allura, he stopped behaving like a moron. This was a natural progression from the last season to this. He was just a kid before and he had grown up a lot. He's always been in love with her, even if he was being an immature idiot about it. His "I can get all the girls" attitude, definitely had an impact on how Allura looked at him and this was confirmed when she was talking to Lance's mother. "No, it's just a front. You're the first girl he's brought home." He did himself an injustice by pretending to be such a ladies' man. He probably would have gotten the girl much sooner.

This season showed his sweet and caring side and it made me happy. Sure, Allura's death was a blow, but when it showed him one year later telling the kids about all she had done so they could live, he seemed to be at peace with it. Him returning to work on his family's farm makes a lot of sense. He's with people that love him, and in the future, he may meet someone else.

Depending on the outlook, some people are not going to be satisfied with that ending, but I know I was. I have seen some of the reactions online - people are crazy, - you can't please them all. The shows I watch are purely for my own entertainment, and if I was to take them as seriously as some of the clowns on the internets, I'd be a really depressed individual. XD.

On saying that, I thought Shiro's ending was a little bit "whatever" though. I don't feel like he would just retire and live happily ever after like that. There was a lot more to his character than just meeting a random man, getting married and retiring. That definitely felt like it was done for "gay points." (In agreement with LGBT crowd) It would feel equally wrong if they married Keith or Hunk off to random girls that we knew nothing about. lol. All of the rest of the endings were kinda fitting.
