Honestly, I can't agree or disagree with you on this. I disliked the show for very different reasons. I hadn't got that far into the story yet to witness the sexual assault. I read up on some of those controversies because to be honest, I find the craziness of its fans hilarious. SAO has had one of the most insane fanbases, so even without watching it, I got to know why people hated it so much. Beyond any of this, I just found it extemely boring. If an anime doesn't grab my attention in the first few episodes, I'm gone. lol.
Yea it wasn't towards you, but to the people you mentioned. The anime isn't for everyone, which is good. I just don't get why people get so worked up over this. I don't remember people getting worked up over The garden of sinners (Kara no Kyōkai) and that show is far more graphic with rape and mutilation. If rape was a cheap plot device in an anime it would be that show. But then again, the garden of sinners is a brilliant show. So maybe that makes it ok.
Okay, it's not terrible, I just say that to trigger people. It's average to below average. The characters are: Kirito - a Gary Stu... that's it, that's his character. Asuna - the maiden in distress, and a tsundere waifu. Part of the problem, but far from the only one.
99% of anime produced after 2010 has stock characters like this. If that is your gripe than you chose the wrong medium. It's one of the reason I don't watch a whole lot of anime. I go to MAL see the releaselist and all anime look exactly the same. Same characters, same art style. It's been like that for years.
Thank you for the insight, but I know anime just fine. I rate most of the anime I watch between average or good, and it's no coincidence that none of the anime I rate highly are the kind of anime you described. Furthermore, no anime should be spared from being objectively criticized and called bad just because the majority of anime are bad. That's flawed reasoning.
I finally finished watching Violet Evergarden in the office yesterday. It was hard trying to hide that I was crying from my co-workers. I pretended to have the flu as I kept blowing my nose non-stop lolol.
In the office? What an absolute MADLAD!!! Finished watching the first season of Darker than Black. Was expecting something really great but it turned out to be an okay show. Minus a few really good standalone episodes, the season didn't seem all that special. The first season is supposed to be the best of the series, so I'll prolly begrudgingly rush through the 2nd season and the ovas.
Well, after finishing the seasons of SAO, Index and Slime I decided to start Erased which I had been saving up for such a lull. At first I didn’t think much of it, but before long it really started to get to me. You know it’s something when you start talking to the screen, “why didn’t you say something” or “what about the real murderer”. Came out good in the end although they could have made the age difference a little more subtle just to be less on the creepy side.
Done with A Place Further Then The Universe. Pretty good, definitely a relatable series. Wish there wasn't so much crying tho...
I think mine was Seven Deadly Sins? I accidentally stumbled back upon Tokyo Ghoul so I may finish the third season. Not sure if these series will have more seasons? I'm don't watch anime like I use to and I always end up watching what I've already seen for the nostalgia factors.
I recently finished rewatching The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I found it a very apathetic show; it really captured that apathetic feeling for me. I enjoyed attempting the decipher the plot. I enjoyed rewatching the same content over and over again, finding the part where they did their homework very satisfying. I've even started reading Hyperion, which is a book in the show which Nagato kept putting notes inside as a plot device (although my library only had the last two novels of the Hyperion Cantos in stock, so I've started there). Overall I found The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya good because it reflected life back to me, allowing me to put my apathetic and manic tendencies in focus.
Kill la Kill is the newest one, and it surprised me. I should've hated everything about it, and I did at first, but I stuck with it and found some top quality content. Over the top, but yet very layered at the same time, with a pretty creative take on a lot of themes. An abandoned girl finally getting to become a normal teen girl with friends, human beings and the perception of how we mask ourselves with clothing, etc. It's actually pretty great stuff, and right up my alley when it comes to merging action/drama with comedy. But for literal last anime, I rewatched Outlaw Star again, thanks to a friend; I've known this anime for over 15 years and it held up pretty well. That's pretty rare.
I finished tales of the abyss anime. I enjoyed it all the traditional tales tropes are there. I do wish there was a follow up episode. I want one more episode! I always love the interaction moments during the level grinding on overworked levels.
I just finished Shakugan no shana first Season. I enjoyed it. Its a magical girl anime but strangely feels a bit more "real" than a lot. Or maybe I should say the character development is pretty mature at least in terms of growth and attachment rate. In it flame haze keep the world in balance for torches - humans whom have died but haven't moved on yet. Oddly enough I never totally got the entire plot as there are other forces going after the souls and the main character doesn't exactly stick to the clan order. Despite a slightly confusing plot it is enjoyable with some heart warming and breaking moments. That said there is still some good comedy in it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakugan_no_Shana#:~:text=A 24-episode anime television,23, 2006 on TV Kanagawa.&text=An anime film based on,at Dengeki Bunko's Mov I also finished he is my master and the first Season of ikkitousen during the new year holiday breaks.
